Synopsis:

When a series of unexplained murders occurs in the normally quiet town of Tarker’s Mill, the residents decide to hunt down the killer. Many of these vigilantes end up dead, and those who don’t are no closer to finding the assailant. But, when a young wheelchair-using boy named Marty (Corey Haim) encounters a werewolf one night, the pieces begin to come together. Along with his sister and Uncle Red (Gary Busey), Marty begins a mission to capture the werewolf once and for all.

Review:

Silver Bullet is a classic, based on Stephen King’s story about a werewolf mauling people in white picket fence suburbia, starring Corey Haim and Gary Busey. It’s a long-sought Blu-ray release, finally made available by Umbrella. Silver Bullet is a werewolf movie with heart. Yeah, people are being torn to shreds by a gnarly beast, but at the same time, it uses downtime wisely by making us actually care about the main characters.

One thing the horror genre has been missing since the late Eighties, is good werewolf movies. Sure, occasionally it happens, such as it did with Ginger Snaps and Late Phases, but really, it’s a criminally under-utilized sub-genre. Silver Bullet is an example of a werewolf movie done right. The story is compelling, the characters are easy to relate to, and the atmosphere is very effective.

Silver Bullet has long been at the top of Blu-ray collector’s wish list. If you had a region free player, you could have imported a copy from Germany, but most people don’t own one of those players. The region listed on the case of Umbrella’s release is B, but it’s actually region free, so American players can play the disc just fine.

So how is the disc? It’s quite excellent, to say the least. The picture quality is great, as is the audio track. It features a 1080p AVC-encoded transfer presented in 2.35:1, and an English stereo DTS-HD MA audio track. Extras range from commentaries, to interviews, to TV and radio spots, etc. A full listing of extras can be found below. If you have been waiting to add Silver Bullet to your HD library, now is finally the time to do so. Umbrella’s Blu-ray release of Silver Bullet is highly recommended.

You can purchase a copy of your own by visiting Amazon, or Umbrella’s website.
